Genetics' Published Articles Ahead of Print
Last updated: August 24, 2008.
To provide readers with the latest research and open access to Genetics' papers, each week Genetics publishes manuscripts online, as soon as possible after they have been accepted for publication by a Genetics' Associate Editor, but before each manuscript has been approved by the Editor-in-Chief, copy-edited and the final proofs reviewed by authors.
These published-ahead-of-print manuscripts appear online as PDFs approximately eight to ten weeks before publication in the printed and online editions of Genetics.
Each manuscript published online ahead-of-print is citable, with the official publication date the date of the manuscript's first online posting. Genetics' papers are assigned Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), providing a persistent, permanent way to identify manuscripts published in the online environment.
After a manuscript is first published online, it continues through the process of being prepared for print publication, including final copy-editing, typesetting, proofreading, and author review. In some cases, a paper accepted and published-ahead-of-print may be pulled for the purposes of revision before it is eventually published in print. Companion papers slated for our print and online editions may or may not be published simultaneously as publish-ahead-of-print papers.
In support of open access, the publish ahead of print version of a paper will appear soon after acceptance and will be freely accessible to all readers.
